Censorship in China
"Word searches are blocked, search results cannot be viewed, websites are closed down, blogs are deleted, images cannot be viewed. The Chinese Government with the assistance of international I.T companies represses people's basic human right to freedom of expression."

n April 2004, the Chinese journalist Shi Tao used his Yahoo! email account to send a message to a U.S.-based website where he summarised a government order directing media organisations in China to downplay the 15th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown. Authorities used information supplied by Yahoo! to find Shi Tao and to convict him of 'illegally providing state secrets to foreign entities.' He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Amnesty International considers Shi Tao to be a prisoner of conscience, imprisoned for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression.
