Demand Dignity Campaign: Cultural Awareness Training

This interactive workshop will be presented by Grant Sarra who has spent twenty-six years of his life working exclusively with Indigenous people in Australia. The workshop will help participants gain a greater understanding of the history of Indigenous Australians and what it is like to be an Indigenous Australian.

Human Rights Workshop

As part of Amnesty International Australia’s youth initiative we will be hosting a free workshop for people aged between 18-30 years on Human Rights campaigning and activism. The day will include presentations and workshops delivered by experienced campaign managers and activists within Amnesty International Australia.  
Refugee Speakers Forum

Come and listen to the first hand experiences of an Asylum Seeker arrival in Australia, learn about the impact of our immigration policies on the lives of refugees and asylum seekers and what we can do about it.
Foundation Day

Amnesty UNSW will be having a stall during the Foundations Day. Help us to celebrate the commitment of UNSW students to Human rights issues.

Come along for some free pizza at lunchtime and meet the current Amnesty International UNSW group.

It will coincide with International Women's Day and we will be talking about our campaigns for the year, which include the Stop Violence Against Women campaign.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)Wednesday 18th March

Free Pizza for AIA UNSW Members

The Annual General Meeting will be for the purposes of reviewing 2008 with a President's Address from Ali Kalceff as well as a Treasurer's report. There will also be a discussion of AIA UNSW in general and the campaigns and events in store for 2009. Changes to the AIA UNSW constitution will be put up to vote. We will also be electing the new 2009 executive committee.

You are welcome at the meeting to also express your interest to casually volunteer within any of these divisions. The time commitment is not strenuous and we all understand that we are uni students!

If you wish to run for a position but you are unable to attend the AGM on Wednesday, send us an email stating:

  2. What position you would like to run for
  3. Why you are interested in Amnesty International UNSW

Jenny Leong (Community Campaigns Coordinator) and Ruby Johnson (Community Campaigns Assistant) from Amnesty International NSW will be coming into uni to hold a special workshop for AI UNSW members and any interested people about:
  1. Amnesty International and our role within the human rights framework
  2. Training, education and information about the campaigns we are running this year (A Human Rights Act for Australia, Stop Violence Against Women, and possibly Anti-Death Penalty or Refugees)
  3. A discussion and workshop on campaigning skills, engaging with the public, public speaking, and presentation.
